4 months ago gfycat introduced their NSFW counter part redgifs. Migration towards it was adviced, but it wasn't mandatory yet. They have recently announced that this migration is now mandatory and that on the 12th of May gfycat will no longer allow NSFW content to be hosted on their platform. So if you have a gfycat account with NSFW content on it you need to transfer it over to redgifs.

The main issue with redgifs is that reddit currently does not support embedding for this site and they probably never will add it seeing how it's a NSFW platform. This means that by default when you click a redgifs link on the desktop site or the official app you will be redirected to redgifs. Unlike gfycat links that just play on reddit without redirecting. This is a huge inconvenience.

The RES extension for desktop provides support for this so you can view them on reddit, if you do browse on a desktop and don't have the RES extension yet I recommend getting it. 3rd party mobile apps might also offer support for this.

We won't turn down posts made on redgifs, but do note that a significant less amount of people will see it due to reddit not embedding it. The "best" know alternative is probably imgur and changing the .mp4 extension to .gifv. Quality might be less, but it should still allow people to see it on mobile without getting redirected.
